Wildlife Verges

Derek Shurvell writes: We hope you’re enjoying the verge outside the church which is now a wash with wild flowers. Encouraged by John Ralph 10 years ago to allow a more natural look to develop. We will leave the plants and grasses to flower and seed and then strim and remove at the middle of July and keep mown for the rest of the year.
Friday’ Churchyard Working Party was  attended by 6 adults and a child. Azaleas on the terraces were pruned and tidied. The heathers bordering the steep steps were cut back and graves on the lower terrace were tidied.
We also admired the ox – eye daisies flowering throughout the churchyard at the moment.
