Derek writes: Louisa Reed and I ( both members of St. Margaret’s Church ), run an after School gardening club at the local primary School.
Our aims are to enthuse young people about the joys of gardening, by chatting and doing. Together, but mainly with Louisa’s writing skills we came up with a rhyming gardening poem entitled “ A – Z of gardening “ The idea is for youngsters to learn the poem and write & draw a page of information about each line in a fine hard backed note book they have all been given. We will run with this idea next time and devout 30 minutes each week before doing practical tasks outside. However one of the club, Phoebe Smith, took up the challenge and researched each line herself, filled her note book and recited the poem by memory to those gathered at Gravetye Manor, for our end of term outing. a fitting place to receive the first awarding of A – Z of gardening presented to her by Tom Coward the head gardener. Well done Phoebe.
