Derek writes: Gladiolus from the Latin gladius meaning sword, hence Gladiator swordsman. I bought a selection of corms a few years ago and haven’t looked back.
They are easy to grow, plant a couple of inches below the surface, in clumps in borders or as a crop on the vegetable / cutting garden.
They do look stunning in situ and great fun in a vase or flower arrangement.
Do buy a pack this Autumn.
